Altruistic Reiki, my journey to Jikiden

Meryl on 2nd Oct 2022

Altruistic reiki is run by Meryl, who is fully trained in traditional Japanese reiki to the Okuden level. My teacher’s lineage are all Japanese, with a very short reiki lineage back to Usui Sensei. This is essential to being able to give the purest form of reiki healing that Mikao Usui taught. I can be found on the UK Jikiden Reiki Association site, which also gives an in-depth guide to its reiki.

Originally I took the first level of western reiki with a teacher who had produced a very commercial course manual to create a teaching system for her courses. There was no spiritual feeling within the book and she seemed surprised when I couldn't feel the reiki energy from her. In comparison, I took my second reiki level with my sister, who had been a reiki master for over a decade. Although it was taught in a looser way, the system still felt systematic. Something was missing for me from western reiki.

I was delighted come across Tadao Yamaguchi's book "Light on the origins of Reiki", I subsequently found a Japanese teacher and took both shoden and okuden levels with her. Healing changed in me and I felt so at home with my new found skills. The energy flowed freely and the importance of finding the byosen sensation (blockages in the body) became more prominent. I began to feel that I was healing what my client’s body was shouting out for.

reiki heals the energies

I currently work from home with my own therapy room. I am based in the beautiful Cwmcarn forest valley and even the fresh air here is revitalising. Generally, my clients fall asleep for part of a session and leave with a sense of their body self-healing. To get the real benefit of Jikiden reiki, clients should take a couple of regular sessions to start the healing and then continue on a lesser time scale until the body has healed. I suggest you don't stop until you feel the full benefit.
